Child Support
Family Law, Divorce Lawyer, Property Settlement, Child Custody, Defacto Law
On 1 July 2008 a new formula was introduced to determine what is the appropriate level of child support that should be paid by parents (or in some cases other care givers) when parties separate. The new formula is intended to ensure that:
- The best interests of children are met
- The interests of parents are balanced, and
- The “real” costs of children are relied upon.
There is a lot you can learn from the Child Support Agency website. For example, it includes a useful calculator to provide a party with initial information about what level of child support may be payable in their particular circumstances. However, frequently this is only the first step.
Doolan Wagner & Callaghan Family Lawyers is experienced at guiding you through this complex formula driven legal area and providing you with real options to take into account:
- Other payments that parents may wish to make
- How expensive school fees can be fairly met
- How to deal with fluctuations in income and
- Lifestyle and income issues that may not be properly reflected in a person’s taxable income.
Doolan Wagner & Callaghan Family Lawyers is also experienced at negotiating child support arrangements as part of an overall property settlement. Binding Child Support Agreements are often essential so as to provide separating parties with clarity and security for their future. You need a Lawyer to assist you in this process. Without legal representation these Agreements are not considered binding and enforceable for the long term.
